I'm excited to finally share this painting with everyone. I painted this last year but it took a long time to get it into a frame. Actually, it took obtaining equipment and learning to make frames myself! Looking forward to making more frames for other pieces I have boxed up, hopefully getting to the point I have a collection that can be shown all together.
This was an original composition I compiled from several different reference photos, but was ultimately inspired by a summer evening walk around a Minneapolis lake. I used several layers of masking tape, removed progressively as I built up layers of watercolor, to create the sunbeams in a geometric, stained glass pattern.
I also created a timelapse video of nearly the entire process of creating this painting, from developing the composition to practice paintings to constructing the frame! I hope you enjoy it.

Spectacular! Fun to see the whole process. Have you thought about entering that into the State Fair?

Thank you! I actually did last year! Unfortunately didn’t make it in, it’s a pretty competitive competition.
